Decugnano dei Barbi

Orvieto records show vines on this hillside since at least 1212. The property had fallen out of use before Claudio Barbi took it on in 1973, replanting the vineyards and releasing the estate's first wines in 1978 — an Orvieto Classico, a red, and Umbria's first Metodo Classico sparkling wine.

In 1981 Claudio made Pourriture Noble, generally credited as Italy's first noble-rot wine. The estate today is stone villas, cypress trees and a hilltop chapel where his son Enzo now hosts tastings, alongside an art collection Claudio built over the years.

Enzo continues the family's Orvieto Classico DOC wines with the same attention his father brought to the estate.
